elcome to The Broom Closet!

The purpose of this site is to inform the Philadelphia Pagan community, folk interested in Pagan, Wiccan, Earth-based, or other Pantheistic paths, about local Pagan events, groups, and gatherings. It also lists local shops that stock material of Pagan orientation, and publications of Pagan interest. In addition, there are links to some pages we thought were good sources of information on the web, or just nice pagan homepages. We established The Broom Closet to fill this need in March 1997, and we hope it will let area Pagans find each other and become active in the community. If you have events or groups you'd like to have listed, please click here.

* 22nd (Thursday) at 6:00 PM: Wicker Man Burning — Four Quarters Interfaith Sanctuary: Thursday May 22 thru Monday May 26 at Four Quarters "Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, Wicker Man Burning, In Fire We Trust" What happens when radical self-expression meets radical Earth Spirit? Wicker Man! And what is Wicker Man you ask? Based on the tenets of Burning Man held in Black Rock City, Nevada, and the Old Ways and Traditions, Wicker Man is The Spirit of the Burn, and emphasizes radical self-expression and inclusion, self reliance, communal effort and participation. To which Four Quarters adds ecological responsibility and a place for The Spirit in The Burn. Self made Art and Altars, in their many forms, are at the core of Wicker Man, and we are providing $4,000 this first year in Art Grants to support the creation of Art and Altars for Wicker Man. Theme Camps, organized and run by the attendees, provide daily "entertainment", including everything from body painting, performance art, themed happy hours, meditation and yoga workshops, and anything in between. Highly hedonistic, Wicker Man is an over the top party with an (almost) anything goes attitude. A number of Theme Towns are already being planned too. We will Rock the North Crook with "Sound Town" an opportunity to trance, dance and create a space of sound and energy. We present "Sin City" at The Hemlock Swimming Hole, a hideaway of somatic ambiance where the possibilities are, shall we say, wide open. You can join us in the "Ring of Fire" drum camp, with nightly drum circles a la Four Quarters. And we invite you to camp at "Center Circle," located in the Circle of Standing Stones; for connection with The Old Ways of Earth Spirit, however you manifest it. If the creation of a Theme Camp interests you, we welcome your ideas. The only limit is your imagination. Oh, and speaking of imagination, consider the creation of the biggest, most active, most fabulous burnable effigy this side of the Mississippi, or since Julius Ceasar. The Wicker Man will be a monolith of fire, movement and pyrotechnics. The resident Four Quarters thing makers have some crazy plans, and they are looking for volunteers to help make it happen and to help finish its building during the Burn weekend. Enter the belly of the beast, climb into the Temple of the Burn to place your offerings to the Spirit of Fire; and on Saturday night join us for the climax, when we set that green man's soul on fire. Wicker Man begins with a setup weekend from May 16-18. The new website is launched and is being expanded every day. Our discussion board and list serve are on-line and we are looking for your creative energy. Bring your very unique self and join us as we Burn The Wicker Man. Registration - tickets available online or by phone; starting at $40 earlybird thru Apr 12. Full event details, policies, directions on the website. (Information http://www.wickermanburning.org) — Charge: $70.
